The Parish

This parish serves the majority of the St Helier estate in south London, one of the largest local authority housing estates in London with a population of over 20,000. We have 2 churches on the estate, St Peters on Bishopsford Rd and Bishop Andrewes' on Wigmore Rd.

These are places in which we meet to worship, to disover what following Jesus means and to grow as a community; however, we believe that the 'church' is not the building, but the people, and a mixed bunch of people we are! You are welcome to join us, and in doing so you will soon discover that there are no perfect people in church; that you will not be the odd one out because you have questions or doubts; and that we are all in it together as we learn and discover about the Life that Jesus offers to us.

The rest of the St Helier estate is covered by St George's and St Lawrence's in the Morden Parish, and we also enjoy good links with several other churches on the estate, including St Helier Community Church, Green Lane Methodist Church and Farm Road Church.

The estate includes St Helier Hospital, 14 schools, several parades of shops, a new library, several large open spaces, Sutton Arena leisure centre, and roughly 12,000 homes. Built in 1932 as a post-world war 1 overflow estate in the countryside for those living in inner-city London, it was named after Lady St Helier, an alderman of London Country Council and noted philapnthropist.

The estate is split between the London boroughs of Sutton and Merton.
