Read on for a brief biography of hte vicars!
Hilary Wong
Hilary was born and brought up in Cheltenham. She comes from a church-going family, and went to Sunday School throughout her childhood. When she was 12, she made her first step of commitment to the Lord Jesus as a result of having the message of the cross clearly explained to her by the leader of the church youth group.
Hilary taught for 10 happy years in primary schools before she entered training for ordained ministry at Trinity College, Bristol. After leaving Trinity College, Hilary served her curacy in Chipping Sodbury, in the south of the Gloucester Diocese. She very much enjoyed all the different facets of ministry during her 4 years there.
Hilary’s passion is to share God’s love with those she meets, in whatever way is appropriate, in whatever setting she finds herself - in church, in people’s homes, in schools, in nursing homes, in prison, in hospital, and to point people to God so that they may experience his love first hand for themselves.
Kevin Lewis
Kevin grew up in Purley, south Croydon, and since then has lived in Nottingham, Uganda, Peckham, Bermondsey, Clapham, Nottingham (again!), Crawley and St Helier. Kevin did a degree in Theology as an under-graduate, then spent a year teaching Old Testament history in a minister's training college in Uganda. Following that, he spent a several years in Central London working with street homeless people at Elephant & Castle, and then as a Community Outreach Worker with adults with severe and enduring mental health problems in Peckham & Camberwell.
Kevin is married to the wonderful Fran, and responding to God's (not entirely welcome!) nudge in 2005 Kevin & Fran went to St John's College Nottingham where Kevin trained to be a vicar. In 2007 Kevin began a 4 year curacy at St Mary's Southgate, in Crawley, before they moved to St Helier in 2009.
Kevin's passion is to see people transformed by Jesus, to see people's lives changed from monochrome to full colour as we learn together and grow together in faith. This encompasses whole-life, with social action forming a key part in Kevin's outlook. Kevin is also keen to reflect theologically on everyday lives and make our faith relevant to as broad a number of people as possible, and since 2009 his blog forms an important part of this.
